Share files directly from your computer easily and safely.
The Opera Unite File Sharing service is simply the easiest way to share files from your computer. There is no need to worry about attaching loads of files to e-mails, or about single files being too large to send by e-mail. You don't have to sign up for third-party file sending applications, or set up an FTP service. All you need to do is send your friends the unique URL and they can instantly see your files. As we said. Simple.
Note: Please respect artists. Only share content if you have the right to do so.
To ProVal: I created 2 instances of File Sharing. I just clicked on the Add icon in the Unite panel in the browser and installed another file sharing service. Just choose to create a new instance in the box that pops up instead of installing OVER your first one. It allows you to create at least TWO because I have 2 file sharing and 2 media players running fine. Found I had to use just folders on my C Drive otherwise the service won't work.
So far I'm not having much success. I give the link to other people and it just shows a blank page. When I try to view it I either get a blank page or a 404 error. I'm not enjoying this unite thing very much. Anyone know how I and others can view the files?
I keep getting a reoccurring problem whereby of the services I have installed (Files Sharing, Media, Photo Sharing, Fridge), only the Fridge seems to work after a period of time. The problem occurs even when trying to access the services in admin/edit mode from within Opera.
I have tried restarting the unite service, restarting the opera browser, reinstalling the service and it simply randomly decides to start working again.
The level of inconsistency in getting this to work is creating enough frustration where I'm no longer interested in getting this to work. Perhaps the reviews i've read of this service are accurate!
I am quite eager to ask whether there is intended to be an option to use Unite as a standalone server, while operaunite.com acting simply as a name resolver for *.*.operaunite.com names. If I am not behind a NAT, or I want to spread my services over my home network, I do not feel a need for transferring _any_ data through operaunite gateway, even filenames
nikachu: 1) for now, you can share multiple folders by installing and using multiple instances of the File Sharing service. I know it's a little strange but it makes the UI of the File Sharing service less complicated.
2) Until we implement a download everything feature, your mum can use the Link panel in Opera and filter the links using the search box if necessary. Personnaly I do that all the time, and I showed that to my relatives.
3) The thing with hidden files is a known issue. We're looking into that.
As far as I can see Unite File sharing can't handle native Mac apps- Numbers, Pages, Keynote. This seriously reduces it's usefulness as I don't wan't the hassle of converting all my files.
