With the Collection Manager application, you are free to manage any kind of collection. To create a collection, you just have to enter its name and and to set its fields. For each collection, a form is automatically created to allow you to add some items within this collection. Your friends can visit your Collection Manager application to see all your collections and to add comments on your items. The Collection Manager application has a search function which allow to quickly find an item within your collections. Thanks to an atom feed, everyone can be notified when there are new items and new comments within your Collection Manager application.
1) Delete button from whole collection (eg. example collection) 2) Possibility for adding images via links from web (not only local files) 3) Possibility for print collection (without printed buttons etc.) 4) Password protection (!!!)
To jbaliko : 1) I like your idea of sorting collections. I will try to find a good interface to do it. 2) Collection Manager tries to "copy" the style of Opera Unite "official" applications. Opera Unite "official" applications don't have any customization option. I would rather keep the application simple and work on other features. 3) The main problem for import/export functions is the images support. I don't know how to handle that.
To PaulTC: An Opera Unite application can't scan a disk. It works in a sandbox system.
Can you do that: collections stored in separate files import files from csv or xls
scan disk and the substitution of the values of base "name" - the folder name or the name of a text file inside a folder, "*. txt" "picture" - takes only one or the first file "*. jpg, *. gif, etc" "text description" - to take the contents of a text file ))
This is a really good app, thanks. A few things I'd definitely welcome:
1) To define some fields to sort the database. E.g. I can pick max. three fields: first sort by genre, then by artist, then sort by album. If someone has a huge database, some kind of sorting would be very useful.
2) Some very basic customization options: background color (or picture file), label color, value color, input box border and background color, and so on.
3) Import and export function (csv would be the easiest)
I think you should be able to do user CSS with unite applications if you want to, so adding a background and such should be possible I'll have a look at it later!
I started to write some code to import/export collection in my Unite application format (json) but it isn't stable yet. I may work later on other formats. Which software do you actually use ? (I could check the formats it can export)
This app seems great, i'm going to try it. Does it import from an external collection? I've got a 2000+ film collection on another software, and i can export it, there, to a couple of formats (csv, sql and xml). Thanks for your feedback!
Thanks for your feedback ! Your ideas are good but I don't want to complicate the application too much.
You're right about the lack of interactivity for the visitors. I will allow the visitors to add comments on the items to solve that.
If I had a description field on the collections, would it solve your issue ?
The Unite applications created by Opera don't have multiple skins. I did the same for my application. Anyway, If you really don't like the current skin, you can modify my Unite application by yourself.
I posted this in the forums, but I guess I should have posted it in here, so I'll just copy/paste it now:
I like it, it's a great idea! I was wondering if you could implement a couple of suggestions, though...
First, I'm not sure if I'm not using it as I should and there's a lot of things I'm missing, but for what I saw, I can post the list of "movies I own" and you can read that list... so what else? maybe all my friends could rate every item on that list? vote for the 3 they like the most? add a comment on those entries? I mean, something that it's not only "come and watch my collection".
Also, I'd like to have more fields for the collection itself, not only for the items. For example, I want to create my own "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame", so I created a callection with that name... but I'd like to write a brief explanation of what is that, and maybe what are the rules I set to nominate artist for my HoF (i.e. 1 new inductee per month / 15 years since debut album, etc). Why not an image for the collection too? In other words, just like I can add fields for the items, I'd like to add fields for the collection.
Now, if there was a way to have different skins, or customize the looks it'd be amazing, but I'm not complaining
Yes, you can modify the collection after its creation (add a field, rename a field, change the type of a field). The items which already are within the collection will be modified automatically.
Nice idea. I'll try to do something like that. Within the "Edit collection" page, I'll show the content of the collection with check boxes and a delete button.
Do you want to delete a collection ? You can do it : Edit collection -> Delete collection

Do you plan on adding password to allow just friends to see the collection or will it be open to everyone?
Thanks!
