File Inbox

by OperaUnite

Allow files to be uploaded to your computer, by you or your friends, from anywhere.

There are Opera Unite services that allow you to share your content from your computer, but this service works the other way around. With File Uploader, content can be put into a folder on your computer.

Do you want to take those videos you recorded at lunch break back home? No need for USB drives; just upload them to your File Uploader service on your home computer. Are you collaborating on a document? Your colleagues can upload their edited versions to your computer.

Yeah, same here. Tested on Opera 10.10.1893 running on Vista.

"Public access" doesn't work. From the visitor point of view, it seems to be working, you even see the upload progress bar. You get no confirmation at the end, though. From the admin side - no file is uploaded.

Using "Password protected" option everything works fine.

If you want to upload a whole folder at a time take a look at
document courier and document sync.

OK, so File Inbox did not work with public access. Worked with a password protected folder.

Nice app!
please add progress bar indicator, and maybe directory support!

Problem and solution: I installed and uploaded from opera itself with no problem, but from FF3.5 or msie8 doesn't work.
I installed Opera 10.10 beta in the same directory as all previous installations since opera 7, or something.
So I uninstalled Opera, clean the folders related, and made an fresh installation. Now everything works perfect. Even using unite from ff or ie.

File Inbox doesn't work. My friend tried to send me file via File Inbox, but no result has been recieved.

Windows XP Pro SP3 x32.
No firewall installed.

By tsarhan, # Oct 14, 2009 7:17:58 PM

I installed the File Inbox application but it never opens the admin page, it keeps loading forever, so I can't configure the password nor anything else.
Don't know what's wrong.
I'm using Opera 10.10b, last release, on Windows XP SP3.

Great application! Although it lacks very important feature which is more information about transfer progress in progress bar.

One of others user has a similar thought and shows it in a clear image.

Since Opera Unite is not yet a final product, its available only in the weekly snapshots. Try installing a new build from http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/

By OperaUnite, # Oct 9, 2009 2:33:54 PM

So I've installed the latest version of Opera Unite,

Version: 10.00 Beta 3
Build:1703
Platform: Win XP

but when I attempt to install a unite service I get the following error message:

"You don't seem to be using a version of Opera Web browser supporting Opera Unite services. Please download the labs beta version below."

What is the issue here and what nmeeds to be done to resolve it?

Mny thanks in advance

uwelimbach,Qbah : The password entry issue was a bug that slipped in and now has been fixed in the version 2.5 . It should work fine now.

By alinabanerjee, # Oct 8, 2009 2:11:13 PM

Getting the same error, it says: "For your own security, please enter at least 4 letters or numbers." even though I type in more than 4. Running Opera 10.10 Build 1792. File Sharing and Document Courier work fine.

By Qbah, # Oct 7, 2009 5:31:25 AM

Hi, I got some trouble setting a password for limited access.

When clicking on "Save changes" I get the message "For your own security, please enter at least 4 letters or numbers.", for any password I suggested.

Am I just missing something obvious her - "A1b2" should be a possible password then? But it gets rejected...

(Note: The application File Sharing works properly and takes the tried passwords.)

By uwelimbach, # Oct 6, 2009 6:31:32 AM

movax, the style will be updated eventually. And yes, it's safe to upload a files with the same filename, e.g. example.txt will be renamed to example_1.txt, example_2.txt and so on.
